The Vancouver Innovation Center will soon become home to a major semiconductor manufacturing operation. YST Semiconductor Technology Corporation has leased 150,000 square feet at the east Vancouver facility and plans to invest $100 million to establish operations, according to an announcement from the Columbia River Economic Development Council (CREDC).

Investment and Job Creation

YST, which produces opto-electronic chips for telecommunications and information technology applications, expects to create approximately 100 jobs in the first phase of its operations. The company selected the Vancouver Innovation Center after evaluating several potential locations. "Clark County's quality of life and skilled workforce are two primary draws for YST," said Peter Zhang, CEO of YST, in the CREDC announcement. "We look forward to establishing our business in Vancouver, WA, and engaging the local business community as we grow and expand."

Semiconductor Workforce Advantage

The semiconductor manufacturer joins other tenants at the 700,000-square-foot mixed-use facility, which offers a variety of industrial and commercial spaces. According to CREDC, the region's established semiconductor workforce was a significant factor in YST's decision – Clark County employs over half of Washington state's semiconductor workers.

Jennifer Baker, president and CEO of CREDC, noted: "YST adds high wage, economy-bolstering tech jobs to our community. We are happy to welcome YST to the diverse and growing base of semiconductor companies in SW Washington."

Future Development

The facility's location in east Vancouver provides tenants with access to regional transportation networks, skilled labor, and quality-of-life amenities that help attract and retain employees. The Vancouver Innovation Center occupies 180 acres and is positioned within a developing area that may eventually include residential, retail, and additional commercial components.

The announcement marks a continuation of the center's development as a hub for technology and manufacturing operations in Southwest Washington.
